In August and September, 2025, I participated in an amazing expedition around Zambia - 5 weeks beginning in Lusaka, heading northeast and covering the outer edges of the country in a counterclockwise direction. It was an intensive birding trip, but also afforded lots of opportunities for wildlife, scenery, and culture in this wonderfully friendly country. The main stops included Chisamba (Chaplin's Barbet), South Luangwa National Park (big game and lots of birds), the Bangweulu Swamps (Shoebill and more), Mutinondo (Chestnut headed Flufftail and more), the far northeast, Kasanka (Sitatunga!), Nyachisala (Vermiculated Fishing Owl!), Liuwa Plain National Park (wildlife and birds), Kafue National Park (Black-cheeked Lovebirds), and Livingstone (Victoria Falls and some great birds).
The photos below show highlights from all the places we visited. Click on the links below for many more photos and stories (I'm just getting started on these, so not all links are up yet. More to come...)
