Final stop of the trip was the beautiful Kenya Coast. From the Shimba hills, we went down to Mombasa and drove up the coast to Watamu. The highlight of the Watamu area has to be the Arabuko Sokoke forest, a relatively small protected forest area that holds two Kenya endemics (Sokoke Pipit and the incredible Sokoke Scops Owl, shown above), and several other coastal specialties. We even saw an Elephant Shrew there near the visitors center! We also visited the famous Mida Creek area for shorebirds, and a marsh a couple hours north of Watamu for Clark's Weaver. This weaver is another endemic, found only in a few marshes on the Kenya Coast. After this section of the coast, I went by myself up to Manda Island and Lamu Island for some R&R (and of course some more birding on my own!). Photos from those islands are in a separate gallery.
