The gallery here shows images of Lake Turkana and surrounding lands. We spent 2.5 days in Loiyangalani, and oasis village on the eastern shore of the lake. Among the highlights of the stay were visits to Rendille, Turkana, and El Molo villages, and a boat ride from the El Molo village. Our local guide knew leaders in each village, enabling to have warm welcomes and spend substantial time in each. We gave pens, notebooks, and soccer balls in appreciation. On one day, we drove to Gatab, a small town near the summit of Mt. Kulal, a triangular massif east of the lake. The summit of Kulal is 7,497 feet, so it is like a cool and lush island above the desert below, and has a nice view of the lake. And of great interest to me, there is one bird species/sub-species - the Kulal White-eye - which is only found in the cedar forest atop that mountain. We were fortunate to have great looks at several of these handsome, small yellow birds with thick white eye-rings. From Turkana, we drove east and a little bit south across the stark Chalbi desert to Marsabit town and Mt. Marsabit, an even taller, lusher, and cooler mountain range rising above the deserts of north-central Kenya.
