This was the second part of my trip to Colombia in October 2018 (the first part was a birding trip led by Victor Emanuel Nature Tours (VENT) to the Choco region in northwestern Colombia from Oct 7-15). On this portion, from Oct 16-20, I had a few days of privately guided birding by Christian Daza of Manakin Nature Tours, to two quite different parts of northwestern Colombia: the Western Andes above the town of Jardin, and the Rio Claro area of the Magdalena River Valley. We also visited some dry forest areas near Medellin. All of the trip took place in the department (state) of Antioquia. The focus was on birds, and we saw many really spectacular ones. But there was also interesting wildlife, scenery, and city/town scenes. Overall, it was a fantastic complement and follow-up to the Choco trip.
