This was the main part of my trip to Colombia in October 2018. From Oct 7-15, I participated on a birding trip led by Victor Emanuel Nature Tours (VENT) to one of the wildest and least explored parts of Colombia: the lowlands of the Choco region, along the northwest coast of the country. The Choco is mostly hilly, coastal rain forest, and one of the rainiest regions in the world. Its unique habitats and isolation have resulted in many endemic birds, plants, and animals, and incredibly beautiful scenery. You will see in the photos below that we certainly experienced our share of rain, but also enjoyed plenty of sights - and amazing birds! - and even some sunshine! The trip was led by Steve Hilty, author of the comprehensive Guide to the Birds of Colombia and perhaps the foremost authority on birds in Colombia, as well as a great leader/teacher. We all saw and learned so much on this unforgettable trip!
