This gallery shows the second half of my recent trip to Congo and the Central African Republic (CAR). In the CAR, I stayed at the Sangha Lodge, an incredible, unspoiled place overlooking the Kadei River, and giving access to Dzanga Bai, a clearing in the rainforest that may be the best place in the world to observe forest elephants. It is also probably the best place to have a chance to see the elusive Bongo, but despite two visits to the Bai, I was not lucky enough to see that rare antelope. But we saw so many elephants and forest buffalo, as well as many Giant Forest Hogs and lots of interesting birds! During the stay in Sangha Lodge we also had one afternoon of net hunting with the Ba'Aka (the tribe formerly called Pygmies), which was also an amazing experience. These shots show some of the river trip on a speedboat (most of the river trip shots are in the Congo gallery link - these are a few repeats), scenes from Dzanga Bai, the adventure with the Ba'Aka, and general scenes from the CAR rainforest. As in Congo, we had a wild mix of weather from beautiful sunshine to many-hours-long downpours! Fantastic experience!
